> Vienna Issues > Day Laborers

Vienna's day laborers live in the Vienna Park Apartments and the surrounding "flop houses" that Vienna has allowed to flourish. We believe that the day laborers are illegal aliens.

The day laborers hang out at Cedar Park Shopping Center, and 7/11, Wheat's Landscaping, and Citgo gas station waiting for work. Vienna's day laborers have been observed harrassing and intimidating customers and school children. If you see someone representing a business pick up day laborers for work, you can report them to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as well as the IRS.

The Vienna Park Apartments and Cedar Park Shopping Center are in Vienna. Citgo, 7/11, and Wheat's are in Fairfax Co. This complicates the issue, because both Vienna and Fairfax County police and other officials will have to work together with the community to address the problems brought on by illegal aliens seeking day work. Vienna's day laborers dart out into traffic, waving over employers, and run back and forth across Park St.
It's just a matter of time before one of the men is injured or killed by a car, truck, or school bus full of children.

When not seeking work, groups of men hang out at the Cedar Park Shopping Center, violating vagrancy laws and committing other crimes. This scares away legitimate shopping center customers.
